Letter: Frolic runners, volunteers braved the rain

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

On behalf of the entire Fall Frolic Planning Committee, we would like to thank all the runners, walkers, joggers, strollers, sponsors and volunteers who came down to Lynch Park on that rainy Sunday, Oct. 6, to be part of the fourth annual Fall Frolic 5k & Kids Fun Run. The event was another great success and brought together friends and families from across our city and beyond! We are excited to share that this year’s Fall Frolic 5k & Fun Run broke all previous records. We had 511 registrants for the 5k and more than 100 kids ran the half-mile Fun Run. Volunteers were great, friends and neighbors lined the streets and cheered — and this was all in the rain! Thanks goes out to everyone who helped make this the best Fall Frolic yet.

Despite the challenge of the weather, principals, teachers, parents, students, grandparents and friends came to Lynch Park early that Sunday morning. The event began four years ago to build unity among Beverly’s five elementary schools, encourage fitness and the love of running, and “maybe raise some money.” It has evolved into a wonderful community tradition and significant fundraiser for our public elementary schools. The Fall Frolic is a motivator, a fundraiser and a confidence and team builder — for many who participate, this is their first 5k.

The commitment of the community and runners that participate continue to overwhelm us. Once again the day was cold and rainy and still you came! The kids who had trained for weeks through their school-wide running clubs. The parents, friends, principals and teachers who stood in the rain with raincoats and umbrellas cheering. The volunteers who didn’t roll over on that cold rainy morning but instead headed to Lynch to “man their post.” And the neighbors along the route who stood in their driveways and porches, ringing cowbells and clapping loudly to give the runners the encouragement to run. You were all terrific! Thank you!

We would like to thank everyone who participated and supported the Fall Frolic with special thanks to our event sponsors: Title sponsor: Beverly Cooperative Bank, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Ben Franklin Tees, New England Running Company, Beverly Athletic Club, RE/MAX-Team Cotraro, American Lazer, Aligned for Life Chiropractic, Green sponsor: Alexander & Femino Attorneys at Law, Change is Simple, Karhu/Craft, state Rep. Jerry Parisella, Moynihan Lumber, Appleby & Wyman Insurance Company, Café Salerno, D.J. Patrick Runne, Hannah-Lore Flag Company, Orthopaedics Plus, Super Sub Shop, WebPC Solutions, North Shore Timing Company, John Hall Design, Beverly Recreation Department, Beverly Police Department as well as the Ayers, Centerville, Cove, Hannah and North Beverly PTOs.

The Fall Frolic 5k & Fun Run continues to be a community event that reaches far and wide. Our committee of volunteers — Stacy Adams, Reya Al-Khalili, Kelly Anderson, Kristin Barry, Pam Dunleavy, Lauren Erwin, Cyndie Gangi, Sarah Garriepy, Jill Hathaway, Deb Kumar, Marie Mallott, Debbie Ploszay, Joanna Murphy Scott and Ann Wilder — want to thank everyone for their enthusiasm and participation. We couldn’t do it without you! For more information and to get involved in Fall Frolic 2014, please visit our website at www.fallfrolic5K.org

We hope to hear from you and see you next October at Lynch Park for some more running fun!
