To the editor:
I am writing in support of state Rep. John Keenan’s position regarding the new Footprint power plant. After reading the recent articles by Tom Dalton, covering CLF’s appeals to the variances for the new plant, I am of the opinion that CLF really does not care about the environment. Their only intention is to prevent the power plant from being built at the expense of an improved environment, reliable power source and benefits to the citizens of Salem.
I applaud Rep. Keenan’s bold move in trying to stop the “frivolous” appeals. Mr. Keenan’s letter to the editor (”Myth vs. fact: The truth behind redeveloping Salem Harbor Station,” Dec. 2), was truly informative and sheds light on how a small group can disrupt the licensing process to forward its own agenda at all costs, even a cleaner environment.
By its complete opposition and continued filing of appeals, CLF has shown its real agenda and complete disregard of the broader impact to the citizens of Salem and our region’s power supply. I believe the new Footprint power plant, along with the cleanup of the current site for development, provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will bring an economic boom to the region. This is the future that Salem deserves, and I am glad that Rep. Keenan is working to make it a reality.
