To the editor:

For the better part of three decades, I represented hundreds of women plaintiffs injured by the Dalkon Shield IUD. In the end, I helped create the damage fund and write the settlement plan by which all claimants would be compensated.

It is obscene and patently dishonest for Sen. Scott Brown to suggest that Elizabeth Warren’s participation on behalf of Travelers Insurance in another mass settlement model was an attempt to deny workers fair compensation for their injuries.

While attempting to cap its financial exposure, Travelers also agreed that all substantiated injuries would be compensated without fault and without costly and uncertain individual lawsuits. Participation in crafting such a settlement plan, regardless of which side of the “vs.” your client appears, can never be characterized as cheating the victims.
