Thanks: Ipswich school principal remembered

To the editor:

On Friday, May 15, the Doyon School in Ipswich held a tree dedication ceremony in honor of our first principal, William E. Waitt, Doyon's principal from 1965 to 1987.

We were fortunate to have Mr. Waitt's family, as well as retired Doyon teachers who worked with Mr. Waitt, attend the ceremony.

All of our first-grade students sang a song and recited poems around the theme of planting trees and caring for the Earth.

Thanks to generous donations, a beautiful Kwanzan flowering cherry tree was planted in Mr. Waitt's honor in front of our school. We would like to thank the Town and Country Garden Club and Corliss Brothers for donating the tree.

We would also like to thank Mr. Gravino and his DPW staff for helping us choose a perfect location for the tree and preparing the site.

As we watch this tree grow and blossom, we will remember the many children Mr. Waitt helped grow and blossom — each in his or her own way.
