To the editor:
The Friends of Cove Park, a group recently formed for the purpose of improving Kimball-Haskell Park in Beverly, held two very successful fundraising events in the past few weeks.
Our Family FUNdraiser, held Sunday, May 31, was extremely well-attended. Upwards of 200 kids and parents partook of a wide variety of games and crafts. Some volunteers painted faces, while others served ice cream and supervised games and relay races.
Volunteers Deirdre Patch and Megan Castallo did a superb job organizing a wonderful event that raised close to $2,000.
The following Saturday, June 6, volunteers Kristin Guanci and Jen Chirco organized a large yard and bake sale that was held at the Cove Community Center. We received many generous donations from citizens, and were able to offer a wide variety of items, including furniture, sporting equipment, tools, and kids' toys and clothes.
As a result of the donations and the efforts of many residents and volunteers, we were able to raise approximately $2,100.
Our sincere thanks to the following volunteers and corporate sponsors for their efforts in making these events successful: Todd's Sporting Goods, Captain Dusty's Ice Cream, Deirdre Patch, Megan Castallo, Kristin and Paul Guanci, Chris and Jen Chirco, Paul and Debbie Tetrault and family, Amanda Lockerbie, Katie Ahearn, Dorothy Booth, and Jane Beasley.
We are only in the initial stages of our fundraising, but the interest and participation from the neighborhood and the city at large has been phenomenal.
We hope to continue the momentum as we intensify our fundraising efforts and begin the planning for the park.
