Our view: Candidate skating on thin ice

Republican congressional candidate Bill Hudak, writing on this page yesterday, asked that voters give him a pass on his made-up announcement that he'd been endorsed by Sen.-elect Scott Brown and the scurrilous commentary he'd posted on his Boxford lawn regarding Barack Obama's qualifications for the presidency.

Hudak, a lawyer who practices in Saugus, certainly can't be faulted for his enthusiasm and work ethic. And these mishaps, as egregious as they were, need not sink his candidacy. But they leave him little room for another such error between now and the fall.

Some, including Hudak, have criticized incumbent U.S. Rep. John Tierney, D-Salem, for leaning too much to the left, and voters are always best served by having a choice come Election Day. But those in the Sixth District, expect — and to date have received — absolute honesty from those who represent them in Congress.
