To the editor:
Julie Whitlow's well-reasoned support of the proposed community-scale wind turbine for Winter Island ("Not all Willows residents oppose turbine," letter to the editor, Tuesday, Jan. 17) is refreshing amidst what she calls the "fallacies and untruths" that opponents of the turbine continue to peddle.
Whitlow is not alone in being a Willows resident supportive of clean energy. Back on Nov. 1, 2011 in "Nothing to fear, plenty to gain, from Winter Island wind turbine," columnist Brian Watson detailed broad support for the turbine from another quarter of the neighborhood — Winter Island Road.
As our neighbors do more research and investigate wild claims by the opponents, I am hopeful that support will continue to build. Recently the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Department of Public Health (DPH) released a collaborative report of an expert panel (www.mass.gov/dep/energy/wind/turbine_impact_study.pdf) that shows we have nothing to fear from a wind turbine in our neighborhood. Many of us are eager to welcome this clean energy.
