Letter: Nothing more stressful than not having a job

To the editor:

I understand the sentiments about resort casinos expressed by Joe Doyle in his "My View" column that ran on Saturday, July 24. However, readers should also consider that the root of financial stress can come from not having a job.

Over the next several years the expanded gaming legislation will create thousands of temporary construction and permanent jobs. If a resort-style casino is built in Massachusetts, residents who enjoy spending their entertainment dollars in Connecticut can do it in their own home state.

There are more than 19,000 men and women employed at the Connecticut casinos and Rhode Island racinos.

The jobs they perform help them to pay their mortgages, afford their health care and raise their families.

I disagree with the comment that gambling only "benefits those at the top."

Resort-style casinos would benefit people who have been unemployed for years and everyone in the local tourism business as well.
