Letter: Stop catering to illegal immigrants

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

This is in reference to C. Sortwell’s letter. Enough is enough! Now we have a student in Salem State University who is unable to obtain an in-state tuition all because her father, who lives in New Hampshire, claims her as his dependent in spite of the fact that both mother and daughter are living and working in Massachusetts and paying state taxes. Yet an illegal can get an in-state tuition! Here’s another case of blatant discrimination against U.S. citizens. I know of a young lady who had been out of work for 25 months when she decided to get food stamps. She was told that if she were either pregnant and/or illegal, she would get all kinds of benefits, but because she fits neither criteria, she would be eligible for only $10 worth of food stamps per month. I thought it was against the law to use taxpayers’ money to pay for the illegals! Is this discrimination or not? And still another case against U.S. citizens; my nephew who lives in New Hampshire and works in Massachusetts, thus paying thousands of dollars a year in taxes to Massachusetts, still cannot claim in-state tuition for his daughter, while illegals can get in-state tuition per Gov. Patrick.

We U.S. citizens are losing our freedom and benefits bit by bit, while the illegals are gaining more freedom and benefits. It is time to write Congress and the Statehouse that the government must stop catering to the illegals and to take care of their citizens and legal immigrants.
