Letter: Many helped usher in Beverly's new year

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

Beverly’s New Year 2013 was a fantastic night! We were lucky to have nice weather and a big turnout — about 2,000 people welcomed the New Year on Cabot Street. The hours of fun passed quickly, and before we knew it, we were counting down the seconds. Now it’s time to say thanks to the many people who made it all happen.

The Beverly’s New Year Committee worked for more than six months to plan the event and included: Co-Chairs Don MacQuarrie and Bruce Doig, members Larry Ralph, Jo Broderick, Joscelyn Ruelle-Kersker, Gin Wallace and Mary Ellen Mayo. We would like to say a very special thank you to Don MacQuarrie, as he is retiring from the committee and this was his last year. Don’s expertise with fundraising and also with the confetti canon will be missed. We are looking for new volunteers for next year, so if you would like to get involved, please let us know.

Thank you to the many dedicated volunteers that make this event a success: Bob Monahan, Jan and Don Preston, Haley Alwardi, Marina Babcock, Karin Croucher, Heidi DeFranko, Jill Hathaway, Margo Jones, Chris Kersker, Nikki Madsen, Colleen Michaels and family, Pat and Bob Murphy, Kim and Lars Nelson, Estelle Rand, Ariah Rosario, Carol Schroeder, Amy Sheridan, Kathy Siska and family, Alycia Toomey, Sam Vanhout and Paul Willenbrock. Thank you also to Grand Marshal Pete Frates, who led the Grand Procession and then spoke to the crowd about ALS.

In addition to volunteers, the event was made possible through the generous support of our sponsors. We have loyal sponsors that give year after year to keep this tradition alive in Beverly, as well as new sponsors that recognize the importance of this event. We would like to give special thanks to our title sponsor, North Beverly Plaza, and other major sponsors, Beverly Cooperative Bank, Beverly Rotary Club, People’s United Bank and Shore Country Day School. We would also like to thank sponsors Beverly Hospital, Landmark School, Cummings Properties, Friends of Beverly Public Library, J. Barrett & Company, Leslie S. Ray Insurance Agency, Salem Five, Beverly Children’s Learning Center, Beverly Garden Suites, Cranney Self Storage, Dawson’s True Value, Delta Electronics Mfg. Corp., Domino’s Pizza, Essex Alarm & Security, Gilmore and Jacobowitz, Goldberg & Dullea, Heads Up!, Montserrat College of Art, Pathways for Children, Pride’s Osteria Restaurant, Roller Palace / Soccer Etc., St. Mary’s School, Beverly, State Rep. Jerry Parisella, Sterling Insurance Agency, The Millery, The Remodeling Company, U.S. Tae Kwon Do Center and The Salem News.

And once again, we received in-kind support from Archer Insurance/John Archer, Beverly Cooperative Bank, Beverly Emergency Management Agency, the Beverly High School football team, Beverly Public Library, Beverly Recreation Department, Casa De Moda, CCI Reprographics, City of Beverly, Janet and Wayne Crosby, First Baptist Church of Beverly, First Parish Unitarian Church, Garden City Families, Goldberg Properties, Gove Lumber Company, Greater Beverly YMCA, Montserrat College of Art, Museum of Science — Boston, Pathways for Children and People’s United Bank.

We look forward to seeing you next New Year’s Eve in downtown Beverly!
