To the editor:
We are writing this letter to express our enthusiastic support for Wes Slate for mayor of Beverly and to urge Beverly citizens to vote for this dedicated and outstanding public servant on Nov. 5.
Wes Slate has amassed a tremendous number of accomplishments during his six years on the Beverly City Council, as Ward 2 councilor and vice president. Wes has served as chair of all three city government committees: Legal Affairs, Public Services and Ordinance Review. For the latter, he directed review of more than 400 pages of city ordinances with critical revisions and improvements to those pertaining to child safety/welfare, watershed management, noise and parking.
Wes is also a member of the Harbor Management Authority and intimately involved in efforts to improve Beverly’s use of our valuable and historic waterfront. Wes has served as liaison to the Beverly public schools and School Committee, a position for which he is well-prepared, given his initial career as a classroom teacher and leadership in professional educational organizations.
Our support for Wes goes well beyond recognition of his specific achievements. He has the characteristics one wants in a mayor: He is highly respected by his constituents and colleagues at City Hall. He has earned endorsements from Mayor Scanlon and the North Shore Labor Council and garnered substantial praise for his work ethic and devotion to duties. His broad background of experience — in education, labor and contract negotiations, business and management — positions him well to be the chief executive of Beverly. He is knowledgeable, prepared and committed to the welfare of the community. And, he is thoughtful, considerate and truly interested in the well-being of individual citizens.
There is no doubt that Wes will provide the strong leadership that the city needs. Join us in voting for Wes Slate for mayor on Nov. 5.
