Letter: Cahill a key asset for YMCAs

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

As a lifelong Beverly resident and a career (36 years) YMCA professional, I have a unique perspective on Mike Cahill. I think you all know about the many outstanding accomplishments that Mike Cahill has had for the city of Beverly. I would like to comment on what he has been doing professionally for the YMCA the last eight years.

Mike represents all 31 corporate YMCAs in Massachusetts, including the Metro North YMCA (Lynn, Peabody, Saugus, Stoneham and Melrose), of which I am currently the president and CEO. Mike reports to 31 CEOs who all have individual needs and opinions on how to operate their YMCAs. Mike has managed to pull all of us together to work as one strong voice to benefit all Massachusetts YMCAs. He has represented us at the Statehouse by successfully seeking funds of $1,750,000 for youth-at-risk programs that are now helping children who are most in need of guidance all over the state. He has championed the YMCA in filing legislation for the new child protection act that will make it safer for all the children in the commonwealth because of new practices being taken in the area of child sexual abuse prevention.

He is also right out in front of uniting the YMCAs of Massachusetts in the area of childhood obesity and diabetes prevention.

These are only a few of the many issues Mike has helped the YMCAs with. I have personally been with Mike when we visited the Statehouse to meet with the various elected officials to talk about important issues for the YMCA. I know how hard Mike works and the passion he brings to his job. Mike is well-respected and knows everyone at the Statehouse, and his opinion and recommendations have led us to countless successes. He knows how to get things done. Mike is extremely bright, and I know that as passionate as he is for the YMCA, his true love is the city of Beverly.

I know that Mike is a listener, consensus builder and will work 24-7 for the city of Beverly. I am supporting Mike Cahill for my hometown of Beverly, which I also have a deep passion for.
