The Salem News
---- — To the editor:
Downtown was alive with energy during our first street party, The Block, on July 13. We had a huge turnout, and Cabot Street was packed with people having a great time. The community came together to meet with friends, eat dinner, play games and listen to live music. Beer and wine was enjoyed at Drink, our new pop-up bar, and by all accounts, the whole event was a great success!
Special thanks to our hardworking and creative committee members who planned The Block: Brenda Wong Murphy, Dan Brosnan, Day Ann Kelley, Denise Deschamps, Mindelynn Young, Rhonda Wallace, Sandra Griffel and Sarah Boucher. We would also like to thank the dozens of event volunteers, recognizable in the Block T-shirts, who worked together to set up, clean up and make sure everything ran smoothly.
The Block’s major sponsors include Eastern Bank, North Shore Bank, People’s United Bank and the city of Beverly. Other sponsors include Beverly Hospital; Callahan, Dewan and Murphy; Margaret Belmonte and Shannon Barror of Margaret Belmonte and Associates at RE/MAX; Sterling Insurance Agency; Temkin Financial Group; Waring School; Henry’s Wine Cellar; In the Car and Salerno’s Italian Eatery. Many other businesses and organizations also supported us with in-kind donations and volunteers. We would like to extend a very special thank-you to the city’s Department of Public Services and the Beverly Police Department for making this event possible.
Thanks to our street food vendors Barrel House, Soma, Rowand’s Seafood, Fibber McGee’s, Atomic Cafe and Winfrey’s. Pop-up bar Drink was hosted by Henry’s Wine Cellar and Salerno’s Italian Eatery. We had live music throughout the evening. Thank you to Caspian, Marika Whitaker, World’s Quietest Band and That’s Magic! for their fantastic performances. Special thanks to Erin Burke-Moran of Caspian, who coordinated the music. Covenant Construction provided the stage, and Dave Selvo provided the sound equipment.
We invite everyone to meet us on The Block again on Aug. 3, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Check our website for details. If you are interested in volunteering or becoming a sponsor, please call us at 978-922-8558. We look forward to seeing you.
