A new MassINC survey lists the North Shore’s 6th District as the most balanced in the state based on party registration (only 17 percent more Democrats than Republicans; as opposed to the 7th District, including parts of both Boston and Cambridge, where the difference is 50 percent) and the performance of Democrats Barack Obama, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey in their most recent elections.
A recent issue of The New Yorker had an interesting anecdote concerning Christine Pelosi’s peripheral role in getting talks started between the U.S. and Iran over the latter’s efforts to produce a nuclear bomb.
The last name is certainly familiar. But for those who don’t know her, Pelosi is the daughter of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and former chief of staff for 6th District Congressman John Tierney, D-Salem. She currently resides in San Francisco.
Reporter Robin Wright recounts how Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif introduced himself on Twitter by wishing readers a happy Rosh Hashanah. To which Christine Pelosi responded, “Thanks. The New Year would be even sweeter if you would end Iran’s Holocaust denial, sir.”
To which Zarif replied, “Iran never denied it. The man who was perceived to be denying it (former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) is now gone. Happy New Year.”
According to Wright, “The exchange foreshadowed the most ambitious diplomatic opening since Iran’s revolution. Three weeks later, on Sept. 26, Zarif met with Secretary of State John Kerry at the United Nations to discuss resuming negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.”
This says it all: Angry, spelling-challenged New Hampshire Republican addresses Bay State Democrats via Blue Mass Group’s Twitter feed, declaring, “You #dems have RUINED MA. Stay their.”
