Letter: Cancer walk another great success

To the editor:

On Sunday, June 22, the 24th annual North Shore Cancer Walk took place at Salem Willows Park. Each year, more than 5,000 people join us for this annual celebration of life, hope and courage of all who have been touched by this disease.

Thank you to Jerry Tucker and Dr. Karen Krag, this year’s co-chairs. While we are still tallying the fundraising numbers, we would like to thank everyone in the community who raised funds or donated to the walk this year. Money raised will support the construction of the new inpatient oncology unit at North Shore Medical Center, as well as wellness services and support programs at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers.

Thanks to the sponsors of this year’s event: Danversbank Charitable Foundation; Beverly Athletic Club; Beverly Cooperative Bank; Bouchard & Sons Inc.; Daily Item of Lynn; DeIulis Brothers Construction Co.; Dunkin’ Donuts; Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing Supply; Eastern Bank; Edgewater; Electric Insurance Company; Flowers by Darlene/North Shore Fruit Basket; General Electric; Grosvenor Park Nursing Center; HDR; Lyon-Waugh Auto Group; Marblehead Bank; North Shore 104.9; North Shore Bank; North Shore Recycled Fibers; QuadGraphics; Sagan Realtors; Salem Five Charitable Foundation; Salem Waterfront Hotel & Suites; Serafini, Darling & CorrentiLLP; Shetland Park; Sports Authority; Thermal Circuits; Walsh Brothers; Weiss Commercial Property Services; Whole Foods Market Swampscott; Wicked Running Club and Zampell.

Thanks for the support by the city of Salem’s fire, parks, parking and police departments, Crosby’s Markets and the many refreshment donors, Salem Trolley, and hundreds of volunteers who assisted with the logistics and entertainment of the day.

Finally, we would like to extend a sincere thank-you to those participants and supporters of the North Shore Cancer walk who are battling or who have battled cancer, as well as those who have lost someone to cancer and participate in their honor. Your presence at the festivities truly reminds us why we do what we do, and we thank you for your courage, resolve and inspiration.
