Our View: Investing in the future

It was heartening to see the presidents of Beverly's two private institutions of higher education — Endicott College and the Montserrat College of Art — present for the ribbon-cutting at Beverly High School last Friday.

Neither were there to make a speech, but simply to show their support and appreciation for this latest addition to the range of educational opportunities offered young people in Beverly.

Indeed, Beverly's investment in its public school system matches those that have been made by both colleges in recent years. Those investments — like Montserrat's new dorm complex downtown; Endicott's new conference center, athletic complex and arts building; and now the new academic wing at Beverly High — add immeasurably to the quality of life in the city.
