Our view: The right choice for Saltonstall

If any good can come from cutting Saltonstall School’s unique, year-round calendar, we haven’t heard it in the months of discussions leading up to the vote tonight.

So, we feel compelled to join our voice, once again, with those of the many parents, educators and community members who are trying to save this program from members of the School Committee who do not see its value.

The money for this program is in the budget, and the estimated $150,000 cost is not large enough to warrant jettisoning something that parents care about so strongly.

We hope committee members will listen to parents and educators who want this year-round schedule, and they continue to offer the range of choices that is, in the end, one of the strengths of the Salem Public Schools.
