Letter: Someone please stand up and shout

To the editor:

There have been many political cries for money over the past eight years for various bailouts and economic salvation. The people get scared and Congress acts and the world is saved. Money is given to millionaires and billionaires and major corporations stay in business and the crisis is averted. However, this was not the case when it came to the sequester. This means that it has a majority effect on people with no voice who can’t contribute to any campaign and who have no lobby group and who will suffer in silence. Every couple of weeks I hear a news story about how a school program is closed and inner-city social and medical and educational services have been cut because of the sequester and yet there is no rally cry from anyone. A speech here or there but nothing that even comes close to making a change.

As a Bible-believing minister I understand that the obvious rage should be coming from the Christian church along with every political leader that uses that faith to garner votes. Every politician who has a minister on stage with them and has stated, “God Bless you and God Bless the U.S.A.” should be shouting for the silent majority that has been brutalized by the sequester. Why did God give them that power and that voice except to help the less fortunate, to help the poor, the rejected, the despised, the alien, the sick and the oppressed? Why do those who claim a connection to Christ stand so gallantly with the oppressors of this nation? I don’t know what is in their hearts but the heart of this nation has become too greedy and prideful and the separation of wealth and money and services has grown too far to call this nation a land of opportunity. It has now become a land of takers. Not brotherhood and sisterhood but a group of people that believe in taking all you can and giving nothing in return. A land of pirates living by their own moral code.
