Letter: Grateful for the kindness of others

To the editor,

On Friday, July 19, I was enjoying a nice but very hot day with my sons at Devereux Beach in Marblehead. We spent the morning on the beach and then we were planning to have lunch at Lime Rickey’s before leaving. While we were standing in the very long line, I began to not feel very well due to being hungry and being in the heat for so long. I turned to the young ladies behind us and asked them to please help us because I wasn’t feeling well. I briefly fainted and the next thing I remember I was sitting in a chair.

The kindness of strangers and the care I received from the lifeguards were amazing. Luke, a lifeguard at the beach, who also works at the Lynch/Van Otterloo YMCA, was a kind young man who went above and beyond. He cooled me off and stayed with us until my husband could get us after leaving his office in Watertown. Staff members also made sure someone could go with my boys to the bathroom when they needed to use it. I must acknowledge the many strangers who made sure the boys had their lunches and drinks, as well as kept them from getting too nervous during this crazy time. Many people were wonderful to us that day, but unfortunately the only person whose name I got was a lady named Allison. I also must acknowledge Bob Jackson, Park and Recreation commissioner from Marblehead, who was checking on me and making sure I didn’t need to go the hospital.

The assistance we received made a nerve-wracking situation a bit easier. Thank you again to everyone who helped us.

Amy Ouellette
