The Salem News
---- — To the editor:
Within a short time period, two public men that I knew passed away.
One of them, Dr. Minor McLain, was my history professor at Salem State University.
Dr. McLain was an outstanding teacher, a forceful man who mounted his desk on various occasions to present his message.
He was, in truth, a hero, an actual prisoner of the Nazis in World War II, who lived the life he spoke about.
Former Salem Mayor Jean Levesque could not have been more different. He was a true gentleman from the local French-Canadian community, a person sincerely interested in the world around him.
In their individual ways, both the professor and the mayor impressed me.
