Our view: Moving on from Weiner

The Salem News

---- — Just make them go away. We’re talking about headlines like this: “Anthony Weiner, his sex messages and his wife.”

“Anthony Weiner admits he sent more lewd messages.”

And, of course, the most disturbing:

“Anthony Weiner says he will stay in mayoral race.”

Some in the industry say Weiner’s attempt at a comeback is news because he is so seemingly remorseless. Weiner, as you’ll remember, resigned from Congress after he admitted to sending lewd pictures of himself to young women. Now he’s running for mayor of New York. Last week, he made more admissions — he sent explicit text messages to a woman as recently as last summer, more than a year after sexting revelations destroyed his congressional career.

Weiner is dismissing the calls to drop out. The 48-year-old Democrat probably has a future somewhere, but it’s not in an elected office.

Let’s all just jump off the Weiner bandwagon now.
