Letter: Grateful for thoughtful gesture by Little League

To the editor:

I’m writing to thank the Peabody Little League for recognizing the contributions my recently deceased brother, Ed Cahill, offered to the league through the years. This thoughtful gesture was very much appreciated by my family.

While watching the parade of players, my thoughts returned some 49 years when I first marched in the parade to the field on James Street as a 9-year-old member of the Pups. Peabody was a great place to grow up in those days. Also, while watching the teams and coaches on the field, I came to realize how fortunate I was to have had some great coaches during my youth. These coaches who gave so much time and energy to the kids are the unsung heroes of the community. I would like to thank my former coaches for their help and guidance.

The coaches I remember include: Tom Cudmore, Ed Chmiel, Gerry Golden, Phil Menici, Tony Porcello, Carl DiMaiti, John Tourtillot, Jack Konevich, Charlie Bachini, Robert Prior, Rich Woodworth, Skip O’Connor, Bill Linehan, Tom Joyce, Jim Kavanagh, Harry Houlden, Archie Banville, Mike Dunne, Bernie Stankus, Jim Farley, Charlie Helas, Ed Vieira, Jack Tierney, Neil Coleman, Manny Bettencourt, Jack Kelly and Bill Squires.
