To the editor:
Remember when Obama was caught on mike telling Russia that he would have more flexibility after he was re-elected? Have we now experienced that flexibility in the unfolding events in Crimea? Are we watching act one of a scripted plan between Obama and Putin to allow Russia to take back control of Ukraine? Is this the first step in Putin’s plan to rebuild Russia to its previous glory and major power with Obama’s help?
Why did Obama let Putin get this far? Why is Obama doing nothing now? Why is Obama putting virtually useless sanctions in place on Russia? And why is Putin retaliating in like manner? Let’s face it: These sanctions that Russia and the United States are imposing on each other are for show only. They are of little or no value at all. Russia will not allow people to travel to Russia who do not intend to travel there anyway. Obama does the same, and there has been more than enough time for Russia to have warned their investors here to take out or lower their investments to protect and minimize their financial losses. Showmanship sanctions!
It is obvious to most people that Obama’s foreign policy is a failure. The United States has become not only weak but, in some cases, a laughingstock to both our enemies and our allies. But one has to ask themselves why? Is it due to ineptitude at grasping reality or is it by design?
If it is due to a lack of good judgment, then we are reaping the rewards of electing an inexperienced community leader to our highest office, and the future of our foreign policy, our very standing in the world, is even more at risk. And if working together with Putin is by design, then we may be at even greater risk yet. Because, while our president thinks that he is playing checkers, their president is actually playing chess!
Anyone knows that you can’t take a fifth-grade class president and make him the high school principal. Obama versus Putin is like a Chihuahua facing off against a pit bull.
