Thanks: Food event raised money for Habitat for Humanity

To the editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the participants at the 28th annual International Food Fair for Habitat for Humanity.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, the First Church Congregational of Swampscott hosted an event that showcased foods from around the world, including nations of Africa, Iraq, Scotland, Italy, Vietnam, Korea, Scandinavia, China and Guatemala, along with American Dixie and soul food.

Several local churches partnered with First Church, including St. Pius V, Sacred Heart and St. Stephen's churches of Lynn, Community Covenant Church of Peabody, and First Baptist and Global Ark Community churches of Malden.

A very exciting and successful silent auction was organized by the Symmes and Tufts families.

The Ecclesia Ministries Pilgrims were honorary judges and distributed awards for best tasting, best decorations and best presentation, as well as most helpful, best dressed and best desserts.

This year's Food Fair raised $7,500 for use by Habitat's local affiliate and for Habitat International.

On behalf of all of this year's participants, thank you to our larger community for coming to eat, bid and enjoy fellowship while supporting Habitat for Humanity.

See you in February 2013 for our 29th annual Food Fair!
