Letter: Mackeys helped restore Pioneer Village

To the editor:

I would like to express my thanks to the family of Mr. Dan Mackey.

I was the director of Pioneer Village in Salem in 1630 from 1986 to 1993. The Mackey family helped build the village in early days.

The first priority I had in our restoration was the pond — the need to rework the man-made pond and walkway around the pond. Dan and Herb and company took on the project with the donation of materials and labor. We were able to restore the size of the pond and a new gravel walkway based on George Dow’s 1929 plan.

When we had little funds, Dan Mackey’s heart was huge.

Thank you, Mackey family.
