Letter: Msgr. John Cusack/John Costello Golf tourney a success

To the editor:

Rainy skies never dampened the spirits of the more than 60 golfers who took to the course at Boxford’s Far Corner Golf Course June 3 for the St. Richard Parish 28th annual Msgr. John Cusack/John Costello Golf Tournament. The event was also part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration. Proceeds totaling $6,700 will go toward educational scholarships for the youth of St. Richard Parish for high school (Catholic) and college.

Two teams tied at 4 under par with the winner determined by a match of the scorecards. Congratulations to our winning team of James Hart, Chris Hewitt, Adam Rystron and Paul Dahl. Second place was the team of David Gotts, Bill McGinn, Peter Lee and David Lee. Hole sponsorship was received from Peabody Municipal Credit Union, Lyons Funeral Home, Harnett’s Auto Body, Rocco’s Pizza House, St. Mary’s School, St. John’s Prep, Bishop Fenwick, Antinetta and Sam Ciruolo Sr., People’s United Bank, Nangle Engineering, NMTW Credit Union, North Shore Auto Body, Danvers Motor Company, Danvers Kiwanis, Filranti Reality, Compass Point Retirement Planning, Sam & Joe’s and James Sears.

As the skies cleared, a barbecue luncheon was held immediately following on the grounds, with raffles donated by Chris Carter (PGA pro at Hillview CC), Donald Brooks, Nancy Clouthier, David Dionne (PGA pro at Beverly Golf & Tennis), Jim Hilton (Old Newbury Golf Club), Chris Costa (PGA pro at Middleton), Jim Stavros (Cape Ann Golf Club), Scott MacDonald (Old Salem Greens), Mitchell Flynn (Lakeview Golf Club), Stephen Jones (Sun’n Air Golf Center), Bill and Nicole Sederis (Super Chicken), Sean Crowley (Lynnway Sportscenter), Edward Erbacher, Betsy Geheb and Ellen Guinee. A special thank-you to Bob Flynn and Far Corner Golf Course for their continued support of our annual golf tournament.

Parishioners wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund participated in a church raffle, with items donated by Doreen Nolan, Boston Red Sox, Cranney Home Services, NorthStar Landscaping and Boston Food Tours.
