In what is being called one of the most important Congressional races in the country, the battle between Republican challenger Richard Tisei and Democratic U.S. Rep. John Tierney has sure been one of the dirtiest.
From the start of the race, both campaigns came out swinging, but now it looks increasingly like Tisei’s campaign is coming out on top. As we near closer to the election there have been numerous signs that one cannot ignore about the inevitable fate of this election.
Tisei seems like he will be the victor and apparently Tierney’s campaign and the Democrats seem to agree. In a shocking admission of defeat, the Democratic Congressional Committee, a PAC run by Nancy Pelosi, recently pulled approximately $630,000 worth of advertising for Tierney, according to The Boston Globe. This is a sure sign of a failing campaign and a clear indication that even Tierney’s own base feels that his chances of winning are not worth their time or money.
Furthermore, Tierney’s own campaign seems to feel wasting money on advertising is not worth it either. At the time this article was written, Tierney has no plans to advertise on television between now and Election Day.
What’s more? For months national analysts everywhere have called this race a toss-up, but recently the tides have been turning. Large bipartisan organizations have been changing the race in the Massachusetts 6th Congressional District from “Toss-Up” to “Leans Republican” — just another signal of the direction this race is heading as recent polls have Tisei leading the incumbent by double digit numbers.
In conclusion, the desperate tone of Tierney’s campaign is also a pretty clear sign this race is over. In the past weeks, we have seen ads from Tierney’s campaign calling Richard Tisei pro-life and anti-women, which Politico and The Boston Globe both call false. Richard Tisei is a pro-choice and of course pro-women candidate, yet the Tierney campaign continues to ramp up this false rhetoric as a scare tactic as a last resort.
Tierney is doubling down on his lies about Tisei being a “Tea Party Republican” even though Tisei is considered an extremely moderate Republican who splits his votes almost 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans and strongly believes in the importance of bipartisanship.
In this race there is a very clear choice for the voters. An independent thinking, moderate, Richard Tisei, or a Congressman who has doubled down on misleading attacks and ads just to win reelection. Ultimately, the voters on Nov. 6 will decide this election and will do the right thing by electing Richard Tisei to be our next Congressman.
