Our view: Get out and vote

Voters, this is your day.

This election season has certainly been long, bruising and loud. Record amounts of money have been spent both locally and nationally by candidates chasing your vote. Television and radio ads have blanketed the airwaves, and campaign literature has filled mailboxes everywhere. If your landline phone rang in the last month, it was probably a recorded voice asking for your vote.

Tomorrow, all that stops, because today you do the only thing that matters in this election season: You vote.

Your vote will carry a tremendous amount of weight today. There is the presidential race, yes, but there are also very close races in the 6th Congressional District between Republican Richard Tisei and Democrat John Tierney and the U.S. Senate between Democrat Elizabeth Warren and Republican Scott Brown.

Locally, voters will choose a new state senator to replace retiring Majority Leader Fred Berry of Peabody. Danvers residents Ted Speliotis and Dan Bennett are once again vying for the 13th Essex state representative seat.

There are statewide ballot questions on assisted suicide, medical marijuana and auto repair. If you live in Beverly or Salem, you will also be voting on the Community Preservation Act. It is a full ballot, to say the least.

This will be a historic election for many reasons. Make sure to be a part of it. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
