Letter: Frolic wet but fun

To the editor:

On behalf of the entire Fall Frolic Planning Committee, we would like to thank all the runners, walkers, joggers, strollers, sponsors, volunteers — EVERYONE who came down to Lynch Park on that rainy Sunday, Oct. 14, to be part of the third annual Fall Frolic 5K & Fun Run. The event was another great success and brought together friends and families from across our city and beyond! This year’s Fall Frolic 5K & Fun Run drew 420-plus registrants for the 5K; nearly 100 kids for the fun run; and a great team of teachers, principals, parents and friends who cheered! Thanks to one and all!

Despite the challenge of the weather, teachers, parents, principals, students, grandparents and friends came to Lynch Park early that Sunday morning to be part of Fall Frolic 2012. The event, which began as an idea three years ago, continues to build unity among Beverly’s five public elementary schools, encourages fitness and the love of running — all while raising funds for Beverly’s public elementary schools. Many people never thought about running a 5K until the inception of the Fall Frolic.

The commitment of the community and runners who participate continue to leave us in awe! The day was cold and rainy, and still you came! The kids, many of whom had never considered running a 5K, trained for weeks through schoolwide running clubs and crossed the finish line with broad smiles. Parents, friends, principals and teachers stood in the rain with boots and umbrellas cheering as every last runner crossed the finish line. Volunteers — teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, middle school and high school students — lined the route holding arrows and directing runners for a safe race! And as the music played, the rain fell and the crowd gathered — there was community and teamwork everywhere! It was a great day!

We would like to thank everyone who participated and supported the Fall Frolic, with special thanks to our event sponsors: Title Sponsor: Beverly Athletic Club, Beverly Cooperative Bank, Coastal Windows & Exteriors, New England Running Company, RE/MAX-Team Cotraro, Hannah-Lore Flag Co., American Lazer, Moynihan Lumber, Ben Franklin Tees, and Appleby & Wyman Insurance Co. Thanks to in-kind sponsors Cafe Salerno, Super Sub Shop and Pirate Brands. Special thanks to North Shore Timing Company, Change is Simple, John Hall Design, Beverly Recreation Department and Beverly Police Department, as well as the Ayers, Centerville, Cove, Hannah and North Beverly PTOs.

The Fall Frolic 5K & Fun Run continues to be a community event that reaches far and wide. We thank you so much for your enthusiasm and participation. We couldn’t do it without you! For more information and to get involved, please visit our website at www.fallfrolic5K.org.

We hope to hear from you and see you next October at Lynch Park for some more running fun!
