To the editor:
This letter is in response to Laura Connery's letter of Thursday, April 12, regarding her mother's treatment at Hunt Nursing and Rehab in Danvers:
I, too, have been a witness to the extremely poor quality of care there. For 20 years, I have tried to expose this and other issues associated with this facility. Berkshire Healthcare Systems, the owners of not only Hunt, but also Pilgrim Rehab in Peabody and 13 other facilities in Massachusetts, rely on a smoke-and-mirrors philosophy. They only let you see what they want you to see.
Before the recent tragedy at Hunt in which a patient fell from a window and died and Ms. Connery's letter, I had scheduled an event open to the public to discuss my knowledge of these facts. This meeting will be held Thursday, May 3, at 7 p.m. at the Peabody Institute Library in Danvers.
I urge anyone with concerns or who may have a loved one at this facility to attend. I welcome and encourage the president of Berkshire, David Phelps, and his vice president, Bill Jones, to attend and respond to all issues that may be addressed.
