Letter: Many helped make triathlon a success

To the editor:

Sunday, Aug. 18, Salem played host to a successful, exciting Witch City Triathlon. More than 300 athletes came to Salem to swim, bike and run. The event was a tranquil one-third mile swim from the beach at Forest River Park, a competitive 13-mile cycle into Marblehead and around Marblehead Neck and ended with an exciting 5K run.

A triathlon is a monumental undertaking; the response repeatedly heard during and after the competition was that our guests enjoyed a superb experience in our community. The Salem Y and Streamline Productions would like to thank the following civic offices who worked with us before, during and after the Tri. We could not have held the race without the support of:

Salem Police Department — thank you for keeping the roads safe.

Marblehead Police Department — thank you for keeping the cyclists safe.

Salem Harbormaster Bill McHugh

Tim Short at Salem Park & Rec

Salem community race committee

Marblehead town hall — Kyle Wylie

Adria Leach — External Affairs at Salem State University

The staff at Forest River Park

All the neighbors and friends who came to the park and lined the streets to cheer during the event.

Plans for next year’s triathlon have already begun; hope to have you all on board.
