Letter: Busy summer at St. Richard's Parish

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

Over the summer months the excitement of St. Richard Parish celebrating its 50th anniversary extended to the larger Danvers community with a grand float entry for the July 4th Danvers Family Festival Horribles Parade, and a summer concert and grille featuring the Oniontowne Jam Band on Aug. 7.

Our St. Richard families carried the parish banner high, leading the float decorated as a campsite with Boy Scout Troop No. 155 periodically at full salute. Flags were flying, people were cheering, candy was being tossed to the kids and everyone had a smile on their face.

The float’s message was loud and clear, inviting the entire Danvers community to join us in our anniversary celebration — remember the past, celebrate the present, believe in the future. In honor of St. Richard’s 50th, Troop No. 155 donated a bush to be planted on the church grounds with a plaque to commemorate this special year as a parish.

Thanks are extended to chairmen Phil Strauch, Claudia DiLorenzo and Sandra Ciruolo; Boy Scout Troop No. 155 and their leaders; Alan McCarriston, Jimmy McCarriston, Patrick De Stasio; the parish families who participated along with the support of John Call; Father Bruce Flannagan, Bryan Jeffrey of All Pro Landscaping and Northeast Landscaping.

It was an exciting day celebrating our freedom and this historical year in our parish history. And yes, we did take first place — best entry in the parade!

Aug. 7 brought good weather, great food, classic rock and blues, and most importantly, the human connections within our community as friends and families gathered together at the Rotary Pavilion on the Library grounds for a perfect summer evening at our annual summer concert and grille, featuring the Oniontowne Jam Band, part of the Danvers Recreation Concert Series.

Thank you to the Summer Concert Committee under the direction of Chairman Patty Chisholm, Joni Pesola, Marge and Tom Leonard, Paul Chisholm, Altie and Jack Nichols, Kathy and Dave Gannon, Mary and Ray Jalbert, Anna and Frank Bertini, Joan Sadoway, Joe and Michele Amari, Christine Newhall, Evie and Phil Fraser, Mary O’Connor and Myrna Fearer. Donations were received by McKinnon’s, Londi’s, Sam and Joe’s, Bella Mia’s, Danvers House of Pizza, Domino’s, Panini’s, Gio’s, Giovanni’s, Pete’s-A-Place and our 35 parishioners who baked the desserts. Everyone came together with a plan, divided the work, performed as a team, laughed along the way, made new friendships and accomplished a magical night for our Danvers community!
