Thanks: Nice save of old Salem home

To the editor:

The late-1800s house at 18 Felt St. in Salem is notable because it helps to give character to its surroundings. In other words, it is appropriate for the neighborhood, where a modern home would not be.

This neighborhood off Dearborn Street has a variety of Victorian houses. I knew an older man named Ropes (a resident of the house at 18 Felt St.) who raced pigeons with his friend, a storekeeper named Hussey. They are gone some years now, but 18 Felton St. remains.

Thanks to those who helped make sure it will remain intact.
