Letter: Peabody track team says thank you

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

Every high school athlete dreams of making it to the next level of competition, dedicating hours of their lives training to be the best that they can be. Competing in a national event is an honor that few achieve. Eleven members of the Peabody High track team have just returned from New York City after realizing that dream. They successfully competed in the New Balance National Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships. You, the citizens of Peabody and the North Shore, helped make this dream come true!

For the four weekends prior to the event, the members of the Peabody National Team and many of their high school teammates were found at Shaws, Kappy’s, and Stop and Shop “canning” to raise money for the trip. Your generosity and kind words were an inspiration to these young men, making them realize that “Pride in Peabody” is alive and well. These athletes took this inspiration to New York to show the athletes from the rest of the United States that Peabody belongs on the national stage!

It would be impossible to thank everyone involved in this individually. This trip would not have been possible without the tremendous support we received from the community, our generous sponsors and most of all our parents. Our team success can be measured by hard work and determination but without the efforts of our entire track community this trip would have not been possible. Words cannot express how appreciative we are to everyone who assisted us on our journey.
