Our view: A class act

Of course we’re disappointed that Angie Miller didn’t make it to the top two in the “American Idol” contest.

The 19-year-old Beverly High graduate captivated people on the North Shore over the past several weeks, impressing us not only with her talent but her poise. We’ve watched her mature as a performer, becoming increasingly comfortable onstage, even with a viewing audience of millions waiting to notice and critique every last detail about her.

There has been precious little to critique, however. Angie is a gifted singer and songwriter, who threw caution to the winds when she decided to delay college and pursue her dream of a musical career. It’s been a pleasure to watch her journey.

During a spring we’ll never forget, Angie’s story has been a welcome relief from the bad news around us — the very epitome of what real entertainers hope to achieve.

Many a politician could learn a lesson from the way the Beverly teenager handled her own “election” loss last week. She smiled through her tears, hugged her competitors and had nothing but kind words for everyone.

She was exactly what we’d come to expect — a class act all the way.
