To the editor:
We would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank Sen. Fred Berry for his outstanding leadership and support for Early Intervention services in Massachusetts.
As the directors of Early Intervention programs located in Cape Ann and Danvers, we have had the privilege of serving thousands of children and families over the last two decades. We have seen firsthand Sen. Berry's incredible compassion and commitment to helping the children and families that need the specialized services we provide here on the North Shore.
Early Intervention is a family-centered program dedicated to serving children birth to age 3 who have developmental delays. In working with these families in their homes, we are able to teach them how to help their children reach their greatest potential.
Sen. Berry has always worked tirelessly in the Massachusetts Senate as a champion of all children's issues. But this year his leadership and vision helped to secure language in the Senate budget that will literally save the Early Intervention program from a devastating budget shortfall.
We know that the services we provide to children and families truly make a difference in their lives and future development and yield significant savings, too. The state's investment in Early Intervention services has generated long-term cost savings for our local school systems through reduced Special Education costs and is more cost-effective for health insurers and small businesses than rehabilitation services provided in clinical settings.
Sen. Berry truly is a champion for our children.
