Letter: Event raised money for cancer care on the North Shore

To the editor:

On Oct. 23, MassPay Payroll Services held its fourth annual Fed Up With Cancer fundraiser at Danversport Yacht Club. More than 400 people attended this year’s Oktoberfest-themed event and enjoyed German-inspired food, an Oompah band and a live and silent auction. The evening raised more than $22,000 to support programs and services for cancer patients at the NSMC Salem Hospital and the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers.

This year’s Fed Up attendees enjoyed entertainment by the Mad Bavarian Band. Billy Costa of Kiss 108 FM served as emcee and auctioneer. The audience was also tremendously moved by speeches by Stacy Carpenter of Hamilton and Jason Foote of Amesbury, who shared how their lives have been impacted by the devastation of cancer.

Thanks to the restaurants that provided food: Danversport Yacht Club, Edible Arrangements, Finz of Salem, Marino’s Cafe of Beverly, Not Your Average Joe’s of Beverly, Pellana Prime Steakhouse of Peabody, Scratch Kitchen of Salem, Sidelines Sports Bar & Grill of Salem, Supino’s of Danvers, Victoria Station of Salem and Woodman’s of Essex.

In addition, beer and spirits were provided by Cape Ann Brewing Company of Gloucester, Ipswich Ale Brewery, Newburyport Brewing Company, Ryan and Wood Distillery of Gloucester and Samuel Adams of Boston.

We appreciate you for supporting our ongoing efforts to raise money for cancer care.

I’d also like to thank the sponsors of the evening, as well as those who donated raffle and auction items. Your generosity is truly appreciated.

I continue to draw great inspiration from the toughness and selflessness that families impacted by cancer have shown. The North Shore community continues to make a difference and support a world-class cancer treatment center in our backyard.

Fed Up With Cancer is made possible because of the generosity of our friends, neighbors, colleagues and area business owners.
