Letter: No scramble needed to fill Lovely's seat

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

Succession of the next in line has always been the way governing bodies generally work. Within the monarchy from medieval times up to the present, the next in line to the throne is from the firstborn to the next. Within early America to the present, the vice president is sworn in if something happens to our president.

Then why should the citizens that voted in a previous election for councilor-at-large here in Salem have to endure a “scramble” to fill the seat that Joan Lovely is vacating?

The answer is really quite simple — there should not be any scramble at all. The voters of our city should have the next in line fill that vacancy — the runner-up — and that somebody is Darek Barcikowski.
