Letter: Thanks for help after storm

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

While we did not suffer the terrible devastation that New York and New Jersey did, Hurricane Sandy left us without power from 2:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, until approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The nights were starting to feel a little colder, and being unable to have hot food, a hot drink or hot water, for that matter, was starting to get really stressful for myself and my senior citizen mother.

I’d like to give our thanks to some people who helped us feel not so isolated: Mrs. Cullen, who answered my calls at our town emergency center — she was very kind and patient; Jeff Hubbard, our selectman, who even called us to see if our power returned; state Rep. Brad Hill, who actually returned my phone call himself; and John Tomasz, our director of public works, who also spoke to me personally. I’m sure all those people were extremely busy at the time, but it really meant a lot to us at a very stressful and powerless (no pun intended) time to have the lines of communication open. Also thanks to our wonderful Fire Department for helping us with our electric garage door.
