To the editor:
Thank you for the beautiful pictures of our recent fundraiser included in the "Gatherings" section of The Salem News.
The feedback we have received from attendees has been absolutely amazing. When we started planning this event more than a year ago, we truly did not know what to expect. It was to be a first-time event to benefit a relatively new charity at a time when the economy has made people think more carefully about when and where they spend their hard-earned money.
Well, our hard work paid off, and the event exceeded all of our expectations. I'm proud to announce that because of the event we were able to donate more than $30,000, after event expenses, to Ovations for the Cure, a remarkable nonprofit organization that supports ovarian cancer research, awareness and patient programs.
There are so many people to thank, but I would like to start with our three award recipients. We honored Danvers resident Matt Sbriglia with the Care Partner Award; two-time ovarian cancer survivor Amie White with the Champion Award; and Dr. Ursula Matulonis with the Pioneer Award, for her dedicated work researching ovarian cancer causes and treatments. All three were truly deserving of their awards, and there was not a dry eye in the house when Matt and Amie spoke. They were so brave to share their stories with us, and I applaud them.
Kim Carrigan, co-host of the Fox 25 morning news, was incredible as our emcee, as were the 12 other women from Boston radio and TV who gave their time and talent to be with us. It was a special treat for those in the room to hear Magic 106.7's Candy O'Terry sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." The song choice was perfect for the event, and Candy did an exceptional job singing it.
The 19 models who donated their time to show off more than 60 outfits from Lorraine Roy Designer Collections & Bridal Boutique were stunningly beautiful, both inside and out.
Events of this size don't happen without sponsors. I'm very grateful to our major sponsors: Genentech, Beverly Hospital, Danversbank Charitable Foundation, Rouge Cosmetics, Paula's Hair Salon and Day Spa, and Maison Esthetique Christiane Bourque Spa, as well as the many other sponsors. I'd also like to thank all of the companies that donated items to our charity raffle, butterfly board, and other contributions such as the many local florists who donated beautiful centerpieces.
As anyone who has planned a large event knows, it takes a team effort to make it a success. I would like to publicly thank the team that went above and beyond to put this event together, especially my staff, Amanda Smith, Diane Brinkley, Grand Bourque and Sheryl Gould. My family and friends, Mike Hennessey, Megan Hennessey, Colette Hennessey, Carla Powers and the very special "butterfly beauties." My thanks also go to David Thomson and Sue Tabb from Thomson Communications.
Finally, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the community and everyone who attended "Flight of Fashion ... Soaring Toward A Cure." It was a magical evening made only that much better by your support. I encourage you to come by the store and look through our photo album from the event or view the pictures on our Web site: www.lorraineroy.com.
