To the editor:
On Saturday, Oct. 31, the Chebacco Woods Land Management Committee and the Chebacco Lake and Watershed Committee held a cleanup along Chebacco Road by the lake, state boat ramp, Round Pond and Gravelly Pond.
Eleven volunteers filled many bags with the usual roadside litter — cans, bottles, coffee cups and food wrappers. The volunteers also removed three computer monitors, a bathroom sink, four small engines, car windows, tires, construction debris, household trash and about 15 gallon-size paint cans. Most of the paint cans were full or leaking and were dumped on the steep slope to Gravelly Pond, a water supply for the Town of Manchester.
The Hamilton DPW made two trips to haul everything away. This cleanup was part of an ongoing effort by both organizations to protect the water quality for town residents and to ensure scenic views for the many visitors to Chebacco Lake and the Chebacco Woods.
If anyone observes littering or dumping in any part of town, please try to get a vehicle plate number and notify the police.
