To the editor:
It is simply amazing that Rio de Janeiro has been awarded the right to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
Brazil appears to be a country that constantly and consistently allows lawless behavior. However, I have been a voice crying in the wilderness along with other men who seem to be ignored by the media along with a worldwide disparaging court system that at times and most commonly frustrates fathers from being "equally" involved with their children.
I must admit that my divorce, which caused me great pain being from separated from my children, only made me a stronger man. Sadly, infidelity is no longer considered a sin. (Is that too biblical for today's standards?) We can thank the media and a godless generation for that.
However, men like David Goldman who have been ignored, harassed and unjustly treated by the Brazilian judicial system have not given up in their fight for justice.
Goldman had his son unjustly abducted back in June 2004 by his Brazilian wife. Since her death last year Goldman has fought to bring his son back to the U.S., only to be thwarted by the Brazilian government.
In addition, it must be noted that the president of Brazil, Lula da Silva, met President Obama back in March and spoke briefly on the subject of Goldman's son being returned. Funny, we can send troops (never appreciated enough) who have protected this great country to Iraq, and yet cannot retrieve a U.S. citizen? Brazil should be ashamed and sanctions should be put on a country that allows such and has no extradition treaty with the U.S.
However, Brazil had the audacity to want to host the 2016 Olympics. First, give back Goldman's son! Furthermore, I have noticed how some of the police in Revere, Peabody and, mostly notably, Framingham have harassed U.S. citizens and ticketed them, and yet have failed to arrest and detain illegal Brazilians and impound their vehicles. Why? Because some of the police have married these lawbreakers who have given a bad rap to upright people from other countries that wait in line to come to this land of lawful immigrants.
This country has lost its soul and will lose its body if this mayhem and anarchy prevails. The Egyptians fell, the Ottoman Empire fell, the Greeks and Romans fell as well. Time will only tell. God bless America!
