Our family moved to Swampscott two years ago from another state. When we first met Jaren Landen, we were immediately impressed with her enthusiasm and passion for Swampscott schools and her work on the School Committee. As we were exploring our new school district and working to understand and adjust to its policies, Jaren was a strong advocate for the schools and their strategic direction.
It quickly became evident to us that Jaren’s commitment to her position on the committee was unwavering, and she exhibited a strong desire for all of the Swampscott schools to reach their maximum potential. This is something of great importance to our family, because education is a top priority. Getting to know Jaren over the last two years, we have come to realize that she is extremely reliable, dedicated, and eternally upbeat about her role on the School Committee and its associated responsibilities to her fellow residents. She listens to what the community wants and expects from the school system, strives for continual curriculum advancement, and researches the best approach to make positive change a possibility. Jaren has consistently demonstrated the desire to keep improving and to push our school system to the top.
Jaren has made an effort to obtain additional funds for our schools — something very valuable in light of the recent cuts to the budget. Reviewing meeting materials in advance of a recent budget hearing, it was clear that additional funding was needed to keep current class sizes. She immediately contacted the town finance committee chair and asked him to attend the session and arranged a finance subcommittee meeting with the town administrator. Bringing these minds together allowed the district to avoid expanding class sizes.
Jaren Landen is hard-working, energetic, and offers creative solutions to the tough challenges that face our school system. She consistently demonstrates all the qualities necessary to be an effective School Committee member and more. Therefore she has our highest recommendation and our vote on April 30, 2013.
