To the editor:
The Friends of the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers is asking for your support.
We are a nonprofit, volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the town's library and supporting it in all its activities. In addition to supporting the library's educational and creative programs and its renovation projects, we also sponsor our own programs, including the museum pass program, annual book sale, holiday open house, staff-and-volunteer luncheon, and the recently added classical music series and Scrabble tournament.
Our foremost goal right now is to strengthen our organization. We need new members and additional funds to continue these well-attended and often gratis offerings.
We are calling on the community to answer. If your children went home with a favorite book or a new friend, if you have surfed the Net for a new job or luxuriated in quiet reading, if you have been inspired by soaring classical music or a riotous open mike session, please consider a gift to sustain these projects. Public funding opens the building each day; your private contributions elevate it to a playground, technology center, theater and free bookstore.
We would like to thank all our members for their support and especially those who have also served as board members, have contributed ideas and energy, helped with special projects, or contributed goodies for events. But more is needed — more help and more funds. Plans for a much-needed renovation of the Children's Room are in the works.
We are currently looking for a treasurer, a board secretary and new members interested in helping us become stronger and more effective in helping the library provide the service our community expects and deserves. With our combined ideas, talents and energy, we can help build our library into a jewel of the North Shore.
Our board meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the library's Gordon Room. We welcome you to join us. If you can lend your talents, wish to make a contribution, or have questions, please leave a message with your contact information for the Friends by calling the library at 978-774-0554 or emailing dan@noblenet.org/.
Thank you for your support!
