Letter: Vote 'No' Feb. 8

To the editor:

A recent flier regarding the Route 128/Brimbal Avenue interchange has a headline “Don’t be misled! The Real Facts matter for Beverly.” After carefully reading the flier, I came to the conclusion the group putting it out could use the services of a good fact-checker.

I looked up the names of the group sponsoring the mailing on BetterforBeverly.org and was not surprised to see that none of them lived in the neighborhood that would be impacted. After listening to many presentations about Phase I and Phase II that would bring thousands of additional cars into an already congested Brimbal Avenue, the statement in the flier that there would be less traffic congestion is ludicrous. Our former mayor has repeatedly said when finished, Phase I and Phase II could bring 7,500 jobs. Those employees will not be walking to work.

The statement that there would be no traffic lights and no delays ignores Phase II that shows five traffic lights and two roundabouts.

The statement that the project will definitely not turn Route 128/Brimbal Avenue into Endicott Street in Danvers or Route 114 in Peabody or a “Regional Shopping Destination” shows an unbelievable ability to foresee the future. When Jordan Marsh decided to build a store on the property that has become the Northshore Mall, did anyone envision the nightmare that has become Route 114 and what happened to the lovely homes on a former quiet country road?

The elected officials should respect the opinions and wishes of those who elected them. All the letters to the papers by our former mayor and his minions show a total disregard for the citizens of North Beverly. All we want is more input into the process to protect our neighborhoods and not have a project that would destroy the residential quality of our neighborhoods forced on us.
