Letter: Beverly football a class act

To the editor:

First, I would like to congratulate all of the Beverly High School fall sports teams on an outstanding seasons. This was one of the most successful fall sports seasons in recent history and it is the direct result of a lot of hard work over the summer and during the season. A great job by everyone.

Also, I have had the great pleasure of working as a volunteer assistant for the past four years with Dan Bauer and the Beverly High School football team. I have enjoyed every minute of it and love working with all of the kids. This season, I have been blessed to be a part of this great achievement by the 2012 team: An undefeated season and the Division 2A Super Bowl championship, their second Super Bowl victory in the last three seasons!

I have been coaching youth sports a long time and this has been, by far, the greatest group of kids I have ever coached, from the best starter to the last scout team player. All gentlemen with great leadership from five outstanding captains and many seniors. All of the parents and the city should be extremely proud. All of the players will be remembered as the best team in Beverly football history.

In addition, many of the players made the fall honor roll, despite long practices, films and meetings preparing for their opponents all season.

The same is true for the coaching staff. In a time when kids need strong adult leaders, all of the Beverly High School coaches are outstanding role models. The staff is first class and put everything they have into making the kids better players and better citizens. There is not a better group of coaches anywhere and I am very proud to work with these great gentlemen. I have the greatest respect for every one of them and I am very thankful to have been a part of this great journey!

Dan Bauer is a great mentor for these kids and all of the students at Beverly High School. A true gentleman who cares personally about every player on his teams. It is not about wins and losses for Dan. It is about building character. I am very thankful that Coach Bauer has allowed me to help out for the past four years. I am also very proud to say that my son had the opportunity to play for such a great coach a few years ago. In 10 seasons, Dan has continued the great Beverly Football tradition and made history.

Congratulations to the 2012 BHS Panthers on your undefeated Division 2A Super Bowl championship season. Nobody can ever beat your 13-0 record!!
