Letter: Repeal of Second Amendment would go too far

To the editor:

I would like to address the Dec. 27 letter to the editor “Time to repeal the Second Amendment.”

I agree that in the wake of these horrific shootings, more needs to be done for the safety of everyone. The letter goes too far in stating anyone can walk into a gun store and buy a tactical weapon and ammunition. In order to do this, you need to pass a safety course and a background check to get a license from your local police department. Then the gun store conducts a second background check at time of purchase.

Then the author goes on to say that we should ban ammunition and give the government power over its citizens and their civil right to own arms. Our forefathers through the Constitution gave specific rights to the citizens of the United States and warned against giving up our liberties for safety.
