Letter: Why is the people's house closed?

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

For as long as I can remember (I will be 84 this month), American schoolchildren have visited Washington in the spring to see the cherry blossoms and to visit historic places in our nation’s capital. One of these historic places is the White House, a place where presidents of the United States have lived since John Adams in 1800. This is truly “The People’s House.” It does not belong to Barack Obama.

Last week, the Obama administration announced, because of budget cuts caused by the sequester, all tours of the White House have been canceled until further notice. Why is President Obama trying to inflict as much pain as possible on the American people because of the sequester? Why is he acting like a spiteful child? This sounds like the “dirty tricks” of the Richard Nixon era. He promised an open and accessible administration. What we have is a secretive regime. Why can’t we get the truth about Benghazi? He promised to unite us, no red, no blue. We are more divided then ever. Where is the outrage by the media? I have heard nary a peep. I can only imagine if George Bush did this very same thing under the same circumstances, the outcry, you would never hear the end of it.

Wake up, America. He is not the messiah, and he does not walk on water!
