Letter: Cartoon sparks memories of the Edsel

To the editor:

I enjoyed the political cartoon that appeared in the Aug. 14 Opinion section. It shows a 1958 Edsel Citation convertible and the recharging of the current U.S. Congress during its summer recess.

In 1958, Richard M. Nixon was driving in a 1958 Edsel Citation convertible in Lima, Peru. The protesters were throwing eggs, and Nixon said they were throwing eggs at the Edsel.

It is great to see the Edsel jokes continue into the future and the humor found in this American icon, the Edsel, as related to our nation’s issues.
