The Salem News
---- — To the editor:
Having lived in Salem for many years (I now live in Gloucester), I like to return to the Witch City, time and again, to see what restoration projects are happening.
Recently I have been photographing homes way down Derby Street, and report the projects are going along very well. Over the last year, the former Bik’s Variety Store, west of the English Street corner (and built c. 1820s), underwent restoration and returned to its old appearance. Next door (to the west), a probable restoration was also reconstructed on the empty lot, on the original footprint.
This project also looks authentic (except for the roof dormers, somewhat massive), and completes, on the north side of Derby Street, the rebuilding.
